Colleges
Pavia is notoriously the city of colleges, a very rare socio-cultural context both for Italy and for the whole world.
In 1561 the Almo Collegio Borromeo was founded, the oldest college of merit in Italy. Then, just 6 years later we find the Ghislieri founded by Pope Pius V, and then the German Hungarian College (now Collegio F.lli Cairoli), founded by Joseph II in 1781.The remaining colleges date back to the 90s.
